Kinship Families Coalition of Kentucky

Connecting and empowering kinship families

A life-changing role, Henry County, KY

December 7, 2020 by Tina Agonva

I am 24 years old and have had custody of my 5 siblings since I was 19. At first, I was given temporary custody. After our mother did not comply with court orders I was told that I needed to take full custody or the kids would be placed in foster care. It is very hard to receive any assistance. I did not qualify for benefits because my siblings were never placed in foster care. I also have 2 kids of my own. I would like to see a change in the requirements for receiving benefits. There should be more resources available to family members who take on such a life-changing role.
